Contribution of the Czech Typographer of the 16th Century Daniel Adam Veleslavin to the Dissemination of Historical Knowledge in the Czech Republic

This article deals with one aspect of publishing activities of the Czech typographer of the 16th century Daniel Adam Veleslavin, in particular his publication of translated works on history. The author analyzes this produce, and also reveals the role of the publications in cultural life of the Czech Republic of the 16th century.

The Role of Virginia in the Anticolonial Movement: Transition from the Colony to the State (1763–1776)

In this article the author studies the character of resistance of the colonial Virginia elite to the Acts of the British parliament which were passed after the end of the Seven Years’ War. The Virginians appeared to be the most united group among the colonial leaders.

The French Military Losses During the Wars of the First Empire

This article explores the irretrievable losses of the French army during the Napoleonic wars through analysis of the service records of soldiers stored in the French military archive (SHD, Vincennes, 20 YC). This source allows to estimate military losses much more accurately than individual reports, which help to sum up these losses. During the study, service records of the main part of the Napoleonic army, without guards and foreign regiments were reviewed. This is about 8,431 people.

The Religious Rebel Movements’ Phenomenon in Africa: the Holy Spirit Movement and the Lord’s Resistance Army

Religious factor is historically one of the main factors in the armed conflicts’ outbreak. This is especially pronounced in Africa, where the dogmas of world religions fancifully overlap with local traditional beliefs. In some cases, religious contradictions are at the root of conflicts, but much more often religious symbols are used to justify social and political demands.

Lady Honor Lisle: The power limits of an Early Tudor Noblewoman

The article examines the possibilities of a noblewoman’s influence on strengthening the positions and promoting the interests of her own and her family in the Early Tudor aristocratic society, based on the letters of Lady Honor Lisle. It is revealed that letters, personal contacts, patronage, exchange of information and gifts were widely practiced by Lady Lisle. The limits of this woman’s power were also outlined by various requests addressed to her, the fulfillment of which was within the competence of her husband.

Project about medals by Francesco Algarotti

The article discussesthe project aboutthemedals of Francesco Algarotti. In his «Essay on Russian History in Medals», Algarotti proposed to perpetuate important events in the history of Russia in medals, thus noting the periods of the reign of Peter I, Anna Ioannovna, Elizabeth Petrovna, Catherine II. The author of the article comes to the conclusion that Algarotti’s essay contributed to the creation of an objective image of Russia in the eyes of the enlightened part of Europeans and strengthened the prestige of Russia as a power.

The Age of Enlightenment and the transformation of freemasonry in England

The article studies the topical question of the masonry movement in England’s of the 18th century. It particularly focuses on the history of the Grand Lodge of England. The author touches upon a very important problem of the national Masonic organizations’ transformation. The close connection of the “new” Freemasonry with the events in post-revolutionary England is emphasized.

Military leaders’ images of the second half of the XIXth century in the works of A. Forbes: Some aspects of the British military journalism formation

The article is devoted to one of the aspects of interaction between the press and society. The author examines the personified approach used bythe British war correspondent A. Forbesto display thetheme of war –the creation of a psychophysical and professional portrait ofmilitary leaders of the second half of the 19th century. It is shown that A. Forbes singles out F. Karl and M. Skobelev as examples of combining special service qualities with romantic features of a heroic image. It is concluded that A.

Francoist Spain in the context of the Second World War: Deeds and intentions

The article is devoted to two peripheral problems of international relations on the eve and during the Second World War. At this time Spain was trying to solve its territorial problems in North Africa and the Iberian Peninsula. The author’s attention is focused on the activities of the caudillo F. Franco in solving these problems. Franco managed to strengthen the influence of Spain in Tangier, but was unable to return Gibraltar to his country.

The Iranian issue in the context of the American-Russian relations (2000–2008)

The article is devoted to American-Russian relations during the period of presidency of George W. Bush. The author focuses on the U.S. position on Russian-Iranian collaboration issue. The role of personal diplomacy of George W. Bush and V. Putin in the process of bilateral relations of U.S.A. And Russia is highlighted.

Possible implications of Kyrgyzstan`s membership in the Customs Union

The article analyzes the risks and benefits for Kyrgyz Republic to enter to the Customs Union in the short and long term perspectives. Taking into account the economic situation in the country, the article describes the realistic scenarios of the effects of the Customs Union to economic sectors of the country and different layers of the population. The author also shares his opinion and gives practical recommendations to minimize the negative effects of joining the Kyrgyz Republic to the Customs Union

New project of the railway Uzbekistan –China and transportation system of Kyrgyzstan

The most pressing problem of Kyrgyzstan’s economy is the lack of well-developed transportation system. Actually the main issue for Kyrgyzstan is to connect the North and South parts of the country through railroad to promote the transit role of Kyrgyzstan in Central Asia.

This article analyzes the new railroad project – the railway Uzbekistan – Kyrgyzstan – China. This project performs a controversial reaction among the experts and the political leaders of Kyrgyzstan. Author also considers the key aspects of the transport strategy of Kyrgyzstan in modern conditions.

The U.S.’s Turkish policy: Genesis and Evolution in 1980s

This article is devoted to the American policy toward Turkey in the 1980s. The special attention is paid to the influence of the «perestroika» in the USSR on changing Ankara`s role in the foreign policy of Washington. The article shows competition between ethnic lobbies and the Reagan administration for the right to determine the direction of the American-Turkish relations.

Belarus-Russia Conflicts and their Restraints in the Context of Eurasian Integration

Conflicts between Belarus and Russia have a negative impact on the image of the Eurasian integration. Union’s further deepening and expanding will largely depend on how effectively bilateral conflicts between members of an economic grouping are solved. In this context, the most promising solution for Russia seems not striping policy of "carrot and stick", butcreating the legislative and institutional framework, which limits the possibility of speculative balancing of a small state in the future Eurasian Union.

Views of foreign policy of the Russian liberal opposition (on the example of RPR-PARNAS)

In the article author continues his series of publications devoted to views on foreign policy among Russian opposition. This time he focused on the approaches to the international problems by the largest Right-wing liberal party of Russia — RPR-PARNAS. Special attention is given to estimates by the Russian oppositional liberals of such pressing questions as Russia's accession to the World Trade Organization, diplomatic clashes over the issues of euroassociation of some former Soviet Republics, civil war in Syria, and « The Magnitsky's Law».

The Border Cooperation in the European Union’s Eastern Partnership Program

Russian-American Relations in the Caspian Region during a New Stage of the Neoconservative Strategy (2003)

The article is devoted to the study of forming the new political environment in the Caspian region after the completion of the «Operation Iraqi Freedom» in May 2003. In the context of the American and Russian strategic plans, the attitudes of the Azerbaijan, Georgia and Kazakhstan governments towards Moscow and Washington policies, as well as the influence of the new political environment on the Russian-American relations are also analyzed.

Turkish Foreign Policy in the First Decade of XXI Century: the Experience of Mediation Efforts

The article focuses on the issue of mediation efforts of Turkey aimed at enhancing its role in regional and global scale.
