Creation and deployment of scientific institutions for the study of Dagestan in the 20s of the 20th century

The article considers the activities of the authorities of the republic on the creation of scientific institutions in the region in the 20s of the twentieth century by using diverse factual material. In conclusion, the author comes to a reasonable conclusion that in the period under review, the first research institutes and laboratories began to function in the region, despite significant difficulties.

«I find myself in Saratov in my sorrows…»: Pavel (Paisiy) Dubenskoy

The article compares biographical information about Pavel Dubenskoy, a large Volga industrialist of the 17th century, who later became the founder of the monastery in Saratov. One of Dubensky’s autographs dates back to 1682. This is an inscript on the book kept in the fund of the Regional Scientific Library of Saratov State University.

V. F. Totomianz – Historian, Theorist and Propagandist of Russian Cooperation

The contribution to the history and theory of the cooperative movement by the outstanding Russian scientist V. F. Totomianz, author of numerous works, encyclopedic essays on the history and theory of international and Russian cooperation. The practical participation of the Totomianz in the work of cooperative congresses, which determined the direction of development of Russian cooperation, is analyzed. Particular attention is paid to teaching, research and advocacy in Russia and in exile.

On the Problem of Development of Source Base on History in Russia in the Middle of the 19th Century

The article is concerned with the government policy in the field of publication of scientific origins connected with activities of Russian Historical association in Moscow University. The government activity in scientific sphere was connected with ideology. Ministry of enlightenment tried to prohibit publication of ‘harmful’ books. The author concludes that government interference into scientific affairs could not be unlimited. Russian university scientists protested against administrative influence into development of science and publication of historical sources.

Horace Walpole about the History and Historians

The article is an attempt to analyze the English type of Enlightenment, using the historical views of H. Walpole, an 18th century English intellectual. Horace Walpole was a typical dilettante with wide interests. His views on history and historians, as well as his own historical works demonstrate many peculiarities of the “enlightenmental” approach to history.

On the Possibility and Prospects of Deciphering Monograms on the Anonymous Obols of the Bosporus Coinage

It is not for the first century that the study of numismatics of ancient Bosporus is continued. The result has been the description of many kinds of coins of this coinage. In their classification, scientists paid attention to both the image and the legend, including those ciphered in monograms. The subject of this study was the ligatures from anonymous obols of Bosporus coinage. The fact is that neither they nor their similarities have been deciphered yet. However, in these notations, the names Padr and Itro were recognized.

One of the outstanding statemen and public figures of the Russia of the 40s – 60s of the 19th century was Avraam Sergeyevich Norov.He devoted his life to serving Russia which he loved sincerely and unselfishly. In 1812 A. S. Norov, a young boy of 17, defended his Motherland from the enemy. In 1854–1858 holding the post of the Minister of People`s Education he contributed with all his efforts to the development of education in the country. A. S. Norov made a significant contribution to the formation and development of native Oriental Studies.
