The Pamir campaigns (1891–1894) in the memoires of their participants

Abstract

Based on the works of Russian military travelers and explorers B. L. Grombchevski and B. L. (Rustam-Bek) Tageev, the one of the episodes of the Great Game between Russia and the British Empire for supremacy in Central Asia is considered. The report focuses special attention on the situation in this region, the reasons for the campaigns, the local geography of Pamir, the relations between the locals and the Russian army.
