The main trends of socio-economic development of the newly formed uyezds in the Khoper River Region (Prikhoperye) in the late XVIII and the first third of the XIX centuries

The article examines the dynamics of the population and economic development of the region in the late XVIII and the first third of the XIX century. The author identifies the main trends that determined the direction of social and economic processes that took place during that period and determined the further development of the region.

The issue of the Saratov Volga region settlement by the peasantry was covered in the first works on local history. The beginning of its special study was associated with the need to clarify the reasons for the tense social situation that had developed in the region by the middle of the 19th century. A. N. Minh’s monograph was the first attempt at a purposeful search and consolidation of evidence on peasant colonization. It opens a series of papers devoted to this problem and published by members of the Saratov Scientific Archive Commission.

The journals of the Primorsky and Amur communities of agriculture as a source on the history of the agrarian development of the Far Eastern region (early XX century)

The article deals with printed periodicals of large agricultural communities of the Amur region of the early XX century. It is shown to what extent the information published in them reflects the development of the agrarian sector of the region: government activities; development trends of the colonization land fund; the nature and methods of solving agricultural problems specific to the region. The conditions in which the Amur agricultural societies and the history of their printed periodicals operated are shown.

Boris Vladimirovich Lodygin, a governor of Saratov (1591–1593)

The article discusses unknown pages in the history of the original Saratov, associated with the stay in this city of the voivode Boris Vladimirovich Lodygin. For the first time, a detailed biography of this serviceman is presented, who, before his appointment to Saratov, as a governor in Kozelsk, participated in the defense of the southern borders of Russia, and then in the RussianSwedish war and the assault on Narva.The author traces the further fate of B. V. Lodygin, who after Saratov served in Putivl and in the Monastyrevsky prison.

Dagestan aul of the NEP era: Touches of everyday life (the first half of the 1920s)

The article examines rural everyday life in Dagestan in the first decade of Soviet power. On the basis of archival documents, the influence of the NEP on the daily life of the rural population, which turned out to be burdensome for them, is revealed. Despite the class approach, the new tax campaign led to a deterioration in the financial situation of the highlander, since it was carried out without taking into account the specifics of the republic’s agriculture.

Creation and deployment of scientific institutions for the study of Dagestan in the 20s of the 20th century

The article considers the activities of the authorities of the republic on the creation of scientific institutions in the region in the 20s of the twentieth century by using diverse factual material. In conclusion, the author comes to a reasonable conclusion that in the period under review, the first research institutes and laboratories began to function in the region, despite significant difficulties.

“Saratov font”: Complication of church-state relations in the USSR in the late 1940s (based on materials from the Saratov Volga region)

The article reveals the relationship between the Soviet state and the Russian Orthodox Church (the ROC) in the late 1940s on the territory of the Saratov Volga region. After several years of a forced truce, the state began to tighten its religious policy again and resumed an active anti-religious campaign. One of the reasons was the scandal in the Saratov region in 1949, connected with the mass bathing on the Epiphany holiday and the subsequent publication of I. Ryabov’s feuilleton called “Saratov font” in the Pravda newspaper.

Voivode of Saratov Prince Fyodor Petrovich Boryatinsky (1648–1650): Controversial pages of the biography

The article for the first time presents a detailed biography of the governor of Saratov, Prince Fyodor Petrovich Boryatinsky. This prince Rurikovich first distinguished himself in battles on the southern borders of the country in the final period of the Time of Troubles after the election of Mikhail Romanov as tsar. In the autumn of 1613, he freed Starodub from the supporters of the Polish prince Vladislav, participated in the campaign against Gomel, and then fought near Dorogobuzh, defended Moscow in 1618.

Financial policy of Saratov zemstvo: Expenditure and budgetary deficit

The article presents the characteristics of the most important part of the financial policy of the zemstvo self-government bodies in Saratov province - administration of the expenditure budget. Particular attention is paid to the types of expenses aimed at fulfilling the compulsory and optional duties of the zemstvo. An important place in the publication is occupied by the problem of budget deficit and credit policy of zemstvo institutions in 1866-1917.

The history of everyday life of the workers of the Savelyev shale mine in the Saratov region during the pre-war five-year plans

The article examines the little-studied history of the Savelyev shale mine and the daily life of workers and employees in 1931-1941. Within the framework of the methodological concept of social history and the history of everyday life, the issues of labor protection, accidents and injuries, food supply and catering, housing conditions and the state of medical care are considered. The article is based on archival materials that were first introduced into scientific circulation.

Power and public life in Karelia during the “thaw” period (mid-1950s – mid-1960s)

The article investigates the relationships between authorities and the society during the “thaw” period, which launched liberalization in public life and radical changes in public consciousness. Regional material from the Republic of Karelia was used to demonstrate the situation in the region’s political and public sphere, and the response of people to the activities of central and local governments. The study highlights that liberalization processes were contradictory and inconsistent, and the life of the society remained under strict ideological control.

The national composition of the Saratov region at the beginning of the XXI century: The stages of folding and prospects

The article analyzes the main stages of the national structure`s evolution of the region at the beginning of the foundation of Saratov to its radical transformation at the beginning of the third millennium. The problem of «new» ethnic groups in the modern development of a regional multinational community is considered. On the example of the system`s formation of ethno-confessional cooperation in the Saratov Region, the regularities and distinctive features of the Russian «imperialism» are determined.

Saratov Trans-Volga Region in «a Guide» for Grand Duke Konstantin Nikolaevich

The article is devoted to identifying the significance of the published manuscript “Description of the Volga coastal area of the Samara province and its most remarkable localities” as a source on the history of the territories of the Saratov region on the left bank of the Volga. As it was revealed the manuscript came from the encirclement of the “enlightened bureaucracy” close to the Grand Duke Konstantin Nikolaevich.

“Godless hard times”: On the issue of the anti-church policy of the Soviet state (1917–1920) (scenario of Dagestan)

The article shows the relationship between the state and the Orthodox Church during the 1917 revolution and the civil war. The reasons for the transformation of politics in relation to the most influential confessional structure are analyzed. One of the vectors of policy towards the Orthodox Church was a large-scale and uncompromising struggle within the framework of atheistic propaganda and agitation. The geographical area chosen is the national subject of the Russian state, Dagestan as a multi-ethnic and multi-confessional region.

The practice of publishing in the Saratov province in the 1920s literature for high school

Against the background of an acute shortage of educational literature in support of higher education in the 1920s, dozens of famous teachers of Saratov universities acted as authors of textbooks and manuals. The provincial department of the state publishing house was responsible for their publication, and the preparation of the manuscript for publication was carried out by such organizations as: the subdivision of social security for students at Saratov State University, the general student fund for mutual assistance, the provincial departments of health and education, etc.

The solution of the housing issue by the public administrations of Kostroma and Yaroslavl in the fight against epidemic diseases in the late XIX – early XX centuries

The Kostroma and Yaroslavl provinces, which were part of the Central Industrial Region, were distinguished by high rates of industrial development. The modernization processes of the post-reform period were accompanied by positive dynamics of the urban population. The growth of provincial centers revealed the limitations of the housing that existed in the city, and became one of the factors in the formation of the housing market.
